South Alabama Stars on The Opening Kickoff at Senior Bowl

With Senior Bowl week finally being here, WNSP will be broadcasting live from radio row at the Mobile Convention Center all week long and featuring players and Senior Bowl personnel. South Alabama stars Jalen Wayne and Darrell Luter Jr. hopped on with Mark Heim and Lee Shirvanian this morning on The Opening Kickoff.

Luter spoke at length about a litany of topics, including how Kane Wommack has turned the program around, his JUCO experience, South Alabama’s historic season, and much more.

On how much the program has evolved:

“I’ve seen it evolve tremendously. From the different staff to the mindset of the players, it was a new beginning for everyone, everyone believed in the process. The way Coach Wommack brought it, we had to live up to that standard. Every coach was experienced and wanted the best, and you’d be put in the best position.”

Jaguars wide receiver Jalen Wayne, who is coming off the best season of his career, also hopped on the show this morning and talked about being mentored by now Dallas Cowboy Jalen Tolbert, how he has been training for the draft process, and how much it means to be playing in the Senior Bowl as someone from Mobile who went to South Alabama.

“It’s definitely humbling, I’m grateful for the opportunity. Watching Tolbert go through this last year and envisioning myself doing the same thing and here I am. And I expect to do the same and continue the line of South Alabama players to get these opportunities.”
