Alabama TE Cameron Latu Hops on The Opening Kickoff to Start Senior Bowl Week:

It’s Senior Bowl week in Mobile! WNSP will be broadcasting live from radio row at the Mobile Convention Center both in the morning and in the afternoon every day this week. To kick off the festivities, Alabama tight end Cameron Latu, fresh off another great season for the Crimson Tide, hopped on The Opening Kickoff with Mark Heim and Lee Shirvanian this morning.

Latu, originally recruited as a pass rusher, switched to offense after redshirting his freshman year and seemingly got better every season as his role in the offense increased. In 2021, he set a new Alabama program record for touchdowns in a season by a tight end with 8 scores.

Latu spoke about a wide range of topics on The Opening Kickoff from playing for Nick Saban, the technical aspects of the position of tight end, his twin brother, what it means to be at the Senior Bowl, and much more.

On Nick Saban:

“He’s the same guy every single day. There’s not a day he gets abnormal except when he’s mad on the field. He’s consistent with how he behaves and his routine schedule even down to his breakfast… (an oatmeal cream pie and a coffee every day”

“I talked to him a lot, whenever I needed to ask him a question. He likes stuff like that. He’s not a person to just push you away if you come in his office and say he’s busy. He likes interacting with his team. Some people don’t think that because of how he handles business, but he enjoys that connecting with players and his team on a personal level.”

On what attracted him to playing tight end:

“The versatility of the position. I can block defensive ends, those are solid dudes, then you have to go out and run routes against the best DBs perfectly because you don’t have much speed as a tight end. You have to be crafty in how you play the game, there’s a lot of mind games and thinking. I like the challenge that it brings.”

On what he wants to prove at the Senior Bowl:

“I’m just gonna show that I can be a very consistent and hard-working player that shows good practice habits day in and day out and try to become a leader and grow with my teammates throughout the week.”
