Eli Gold Talks Health, Return to the Booth on The Opening Kickoff

Legendary Alabama radio broadcaster Eli Gold, who missed this past football season due to health issues and had Chris Stewart filling in for him on the Crimson Tide Sports Network, hopped on The Opening Kickoff this morning with Lee Shirvanian and gave an update on his health as well as some of the things he has been going through over the past year.

Gold has made a recovery from a cancer diagnosis and plans on returning for the regular season this fall. He was very open about his struggles over the past year and what he had been going through, talking about the fact that he was unable to eat for large stretches of time due to his illness and how much his wife has helped in his recovery.

“The doctor’s told Claudette, my wife, that I might not make it through the night. I was very sick. It turns out that I have gotten better, but there is still work to be done. I’m not looking at A-Day, but lord willing and the creek doesn’t rise, I am planning to be back for the start of the regular season,” Gold shared this morning.
