Coastal Bank and Trust Player of the Week: Bubba Thompson

CoastalPotWUSETHISONEMobile, Ala. (WNSP) – Every week WNSP’s High School Football team will honor one local player for his noteworthy performance on the field.

This week’s winner is McGill-Toolen’s Bubba Thompson. The senior quarterback was phenomenal in the semi-final contest against Central-Phenix City. He was 14-23 for 360 yards through the air with four scores. He added four rushes for 23 yards and a touchdown on the ground. His efforts propelled the Jackets to a 35-21 win on Friday night.

Thompson hooked up with wideout Marlon Williams for completions of 50 and 59 yards on the night; Williams, another standout senior, is committed to play football for the University of Southern California next season.

While Thompson does have a handful of football offers at the next level, he is currently committed to play baseball for the Auburn Tigers. This, of course, is continent upon where he is drafted in the upcoming June draft. There is a chance that he could forgo his baseball eligibility at the collegiate level by signing a professional contract.

McGill-Toolen (13-0) will face Hoover (11-2) in the Class 7A state championship game on Wednesday, November 30. Kickoff between the Jackets and the Bucs is set for 7 p.m. from Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Congratulations again to this week’s Coastal Bank and Trust Player of the Week: Bubba Thompson.
