The Sound of Mobile would like to take this Veterans Day as an opportunity to salute those in our community who stepped up and served on our behalf. Submissions will remain open through November. Email submissions with a picture and short bio to Meg@wnsp.com

Tim Powell – Army
Tim is the proud owner of local business and Sound of Mobile partner, Tim’s Trash and Transportation. In his time in the United States Army, Tim was deployed and served honorably in Iraq and Syria. Powell now serves in the Alabama Army National Guard. Tim now works as a range control officer, supporting training for mobilizing reserve units.

Capt. Leo Francis Dufrechou (1923-2000)
Born Dec. 18th, 1923 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Leo served honorably as part of our greatest generation in World War II. He flew 19 missions in the China-Burma-India Theater as a B-24 Liberator Pilot. He was assigned to the 14th Army/Air Force 425th Bomb Squadron and 308th Bomb Group.
Dufrechou, a Tulane architecture graduate, received outstanding ratings throughout his career. He lived out his years in New Orleans and Pensacola. He died April 5, 2000.

Master Sergeant Mark Chastain (Retired)
Enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard in 1981 with Company B, 1 st Battalion 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne). After completing the Special Forces Qualification Course in May 1983 Mark served in various positions on Special Forces A and B Detachments. Mark deployed to twenty-six countries during his over twenty-three-year career. A high point of Marks career was leading his A Detachment while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 2002-2003. Mark retired from the 20th Special Forces active duty program in February 2005. After retirement Mark participates in static line parachute jumps commemorating the D-Day invasion into Normandy France.

Greer Powell – Army
Greer Powell served as an artillery man in the US Army during WWII, he was severely injured and returned home to Mobile, AL before the wars end. He lived a full life regardless of his disability until his passing in 1995.

Master Sergeant David R. Parker
Parker served over 33 years in the U.S. Army, including 22 years with the United States Special Forces. He most recently served as the S4 NCOIC for the 20th Special Forces Group. His distinguished military career includes deployments to Afghanistan and Colombia, where he earned numerous honors, including the Bronze Star, the Combat Action Badge, and multiple commendation and service medals. MSG Parker has completed extensive military education, including the Senior Leader Course, Airborne Training, and numerous logistics and leadership programs. His civilian education includes an associate degree in Technology and Hazardous Materials Transport. He is an active member of the Association of Quartermasters, the Alabama Enlisted National Guard Association, and the Special Forces Association. Throughout his career, MSG Parker has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and
logistical expertise across a wide range of assignments in united States Army Special Forces and medical battalions.

Gary Tew – Air Force
Gary Tew was an all-star athlete and graduate of B.C. Rain. He was congressionally nominated to the United Sates Air Force Academy where he graduated with honors as a fighter pilot in the US Air Force. Gary still serves as the most senior and experienced commercial pilot for FedEx.
The Voices of Valor wall of honor has been made up of submissions of local heroes. Nominations came from friends, families, and coworkers to assemble the wall of honor.
