Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark and Lee will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.
You can catch all of it right here on WNSP.com or live during The Opening Kickoff.
In this week’s edition, we were joined by Gulf Shores baseball coach Chris Jacks, who has the Dolphins program in the third round of the state playoffs for the first time in his decade stint leading the program. This Friday, they will welcome the No. 1 team in 6A down to the beach as they host Spain Park to try to advance into the semifinals.
“The community has really come a long way, the more kids playing baseball. I’ve lived down here for 15 years and watching both communities grow from city schools to what they have become in the last 15 years has just been absolutely amazing to see,” Jacks said on the progress both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have made in the sport over his time there.
This team did not start the season well, beginning the year 3-7 against a tough schedule before turning it on and finishing 23-5 to earn their spot in the playoffs. It’s incredible to see how far they have come as they pursue a Blue Map back to the beach.
Be sure to pay attention this weekend to see if they can take another step towards doing that against a very strong Spain Park team.
