High school football season is ripping by on the Gulf Coast, and the tenth week of the year brought some very exciting action to the area as teams got back on the field with a great number of them continuing play in their respective regions.
Every week during the season, Pigskin Pete and his crew on the Friday night Joe Bullard Chevrolet Scoreboard show select an athlete from one of the teams that we cover and name them the Bryant Bank Player of the Week for their outstanding performance and helping their team to get the victory.
This week, the honor for the second time this season went to a Baker Hornet, and this time it was quarterback Tate Graham who takes it home. Graham completed 18 of his 28 passing attempts for 335 yards with touchdowns of 46 and 68 yards and no interceptions in the Hornets 35-10 victory over Fairhope.
More important than any individual title though is the team history Baker made, locking up their first 7A Region 1 title since 1989 after also defeating Mary G. Montgomery last week.
The Hornets do have one more game against Vigor this week, but with it being a non-region showdown, they already lock up the title in 7A and will be guaranteed to host a first round playoff game.
Congratulations to Graham and the entire Baker team on taking home this week’s version of the prestigious award!
