Tobias and Comer Coaches Corner: Renardo Jackson, Vigor

Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark, Lee and Michael will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.

In this week’s edition, we caught up with Vigor Wolves head coach Renardo Jackson ahead of his team’s highly anticipated showdown this week against Williamson in a game which will have massive implications on who wins the region as well as playoff seeding.

The game, which will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, could have an incredible crowd of close to 20,000 people on Thursday night. Jackson knows much will be made of the showdown because of the hotly contested matchups last year, but he sees this as two drastically different teams from last year on film.

“Their coaching staff does a tremendous job coaching the defense,” Jackson said of Williamson. “Our approach every week no matter if we won by 10 or 40 has been breaking out the film and figuring out what we didn’t do well, and this game is no different…the goal for us is to go out there and play well and show we are a better version of ourselves than we were last year.”

The Wolves are coming off a 50-point victory last week over B.C. Rain and are allowing less than 10 points per game, attempting to match a Lions defense which has shutouts in four of its six games and has allowed less than five points per game on average.

It should be a tremendous game between these two rivals and one to which both teams feel like a win could propel and springboard them the rest of the season.
