Bryant Bank Player of the Week: Max Fowler, UMS Wright

Week seven has come and gone on the Gulf Coast, and with it, high school football season is officially in full swing with the best time of year that we all wait for finally now here!

Every week during the season, Pigskin Pete and his crew on the Friday night Green and Phillips Pigskin Scoreboard show select an athlete from one of the teams that we cover and name them the Bryant Bank Player of the Week for their outstanding performance and helping their team to get the victory.

This week, the honor goes to UMS Wright Bulldogs quarterback Max Fowler after his huge night to help his team earn a massive victory over Catholic Montgomery in double overtime, winning 33-27. Fowler completed 23 of his 34 passing attempts for 229 yards and three touchdowns through the air as well as another one on the ground.

Richard Scott caught the game winner in overtime, who had a huge night himself with nine receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Sam Williams joined the Opening Kickoff and talked about how proud he was of his team being able to fight through the adversity of the game changed due to weather, and how happy he was to see Fowler have the night he was able to put together to earn what may have been the Bulldogs biggest regular season victory in years.

“He’s doing such a great job of being a teammate and being a leader right now, and he’s become a winner,” Williams said. “I’m so proud of him.”

UMS improved to 6-1 with a huge game against St. Paul’s coming up this week in a major rivalry on the road, but as the Bulldogs continue to hit their stride the way they have been as of late, they are going to be very tough for anyone to beat. At 6-1 with fellow 6-1 squad McGill-Toolen coming up as well, the region is beginning to heat up and should have a very exciting conclusion to the regular season.

Congratulations to Fowler and the entire UMS Wright team on the honor and a huge win, and best of luck the rest of the season!
