A second team from the Gulf Coast will be coming home with a Red Map in baseball after UMS-Wright fell 2-0 in the best-of-three, winner take all state championship series to the Etowah Blue Devils in 4A. Etowah made the state championship series last season as well, falling to a different local school, the Mobile Christian Leopards. It was Etowah’s first state title since 1996.
UMS has a storied baseball program, as they were attempting to win their 11th ever state title and what would have been their first since 2017.
Etowah won the first game of the series 6-1 on Tuesday but trailed early in yesterday’s game two. The Bulldogs led 1-0 entering the 4th inning but were unable to capitalize on further opportunities and Etowah was able to rally for a victory.
Etowah ends the season with a record of 30-11 and UMS Wright ends the year with a record of 27-14.
