Monday, Chaze Harris was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year to become the first South Alabama player to win the award since Augustine Rubit in 2013.
Harris led the league in points with 18.9 points per game, and finished second in the league in assists with 4.7 assists per game. To go along with that, Harris shot at an efficient clip as he was 55% from the field.
Sun Belt opponents had a hard time stopping him as Harris’ best performances came in conference play as he scored 38 points twice; once against ULM on the road and the other at home against Arkansas State.
Harris was also voted to First Team All-Sun Belt honors alongside Tylik Weeks (USM), Thomas Dowd (Troy), Wyatt Fricks (Marshall) and Joshua Beadle (CCU).
Harris was not the only South Alabama player to receive conference honors as Adam Olsen was selected to Second Team All-Sun Belt honors. Olsen finished the regular season averaging 16.7 points per game, and leading the conference in 3-pointers made with 3.3 per game.
Both of these two will be in action Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Pensacola Bay Center. The Jaguars will face the winner of Arkansas State and Georgia Southern.
