The Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association, Brandon Dean, has announced the two head coaches for the North South all-star game in Mobile at Hancock-Whitney Stadium on Friday, December 16th.
Opelika High School head football coach Erik Spearman will coach the South squad, while Pickens County High School head football coach Michael Williams will lead the North squad. Speakman previously coached in this game in 2018 as an assistant, and is calling it an honor to be selected as a head coach this time around.
Speakman is in his 12th season at Opelika, 5th as head coach after spending seven as the defensive coordinator. Williams was a star tight end at Pickens County and went on to play at Alabama, win a national championship, and spend five years in the NFL as well with the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions.
Speakman’s squad of Opelika has won 25 straight region games in 7A, and Williams has led Pickens County to a 45-16 record in his five seasons as head coach of the team.
The players and assistant coaches for both teams will be announced at a later date. Last year, which was the 63rd edition of the game, the North won 14-10. The South won in 2020 by a score of 28-20.
