Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
For our second Friday night of the season, the Bayshore Christian Eagles receive this distinct honor for a very special reason. Head coach Phil Lazenby led Bayshore to its first win in program history in the first game the school has ever played. Competing in 2A this season, the Eagles defeated 1A McIntosh by a score of 28-7.
Andrew Hope scored two touchdowns while Brooks Jones and Nate Crooms each scored one as well to get the first victory in the first official varsity game for the school after participating in several JV games last season.
It’s one of the most special wins in the long and storied career of Lazenby, an Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame member. Lazenby has spent time at Guntersville, Southside-Gadsden, Benjamin Russell, and an extended period at Bayside Academy before arriving at Bayshore.
The Eagles are off next week before they host Clarke County the following week on Thursday, September 12.
