High school football season is officially BACK on the Gulf Coast this week with our fourth stop of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week taking us just down the road to McGill-Toolen Catholic High School for their matchup against Theodore.
It’s a huge showdown in 6A Region 1 with the Yellow Jackets sitting at 1-1 following last week’s huge 32-6 win over Murphy, their tenth straight over the Panthers. McGill lost their first game of the year to Daphne.
The Theodore Bobcats, on the other hand, are desperate for a win coming off an 0-2 start to the season with losses at home to both Baker and a heartbreaker in overtime last week against Spanish Fort.
Throughout history, Theodore is 19-26 when facing McGill, but as of late, the Bobcats have had the Jackets’ number. Both 2022 and 2023 were decisive victories in favor of Theodore and three of the last four going back to 2018 have gone in Theodore’s favor. Before 2018, however, McGill had defeated Theodore in eight straight matchups going back to 2006.
David Faulkner is entering his second season as the head coach at McGill-Toolen after a 5-5 season in year one that saw them just barely miss out on the playoffs, finishing fifth in the region.
Steve Mask is also going into his second season as Theodore’s head coach and made the playoffs last season with a 7-4 record that saw them finish third in the region, but would fall to Hueytown in the first round of the playoffs.
You’ll be able to hear Michael Brauner and Brian Genard Friday night on the call at 7:00 p.m. on 105.5 WNSP or on the Sound of Mobile app!
