
Led on the night by Dylan Fasoyiro’s 17 points, Richie Riley and the South Alabama Jaguars got back in the win column following a disappointing outing on 1/11 against Old Dominion. The Jaguars stymied Southern Miss and came away with a 75-62 victory.
Fasoyiro wasn’t the only player to have an impressive outing for the Jags, local talent Barry Dunning added on 12 points extended his games in double figures streak to 12.
It was a game in which South Alabama didn’t have the greatest start with the Eagles and Jags trading punches for the better half of 8 minutes. At the 12:10 mark of the first half to play Judah Brown nailed a 3 pointer to make it an 11-10 Jaguar lead. Judah Brown rattled off 11 first half points and South Alabama lead the rest of the way.
With a 42-33 advantage at the break, it was all about staying focused for the Jags and that they did.
It was a monumental win for South Alabama as they make it 5 straight against geographical rival Southern Miss.
Other positives for the Jags include the return of Randy Brady who collected 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists for the Jags in 28 minutes of play.
The tale of the tape in this one was the Jags successes from behind the arc. While South Alabama shot a very respectable 35.9%, the Golden Eagles were not Golden from 3 point land. Southern Miss on the night shot 8-34 just 23.5%.
South Alabama now looks forward to Saturday in what is shaping up to be a MASSIVE game in conference play against in state rival Troy. The Trojans stand 11-6 and 4-2 in Sun Belt Play. Saturday matchup proves pivotal for both teams under the new Sun Belt Tournament format, in a conference where the top 2 seeds only need to win twice in Pensacola, 11 of its 14 teams are within 3 games of first place early in conference play.
