The Auburn Tigers are the best team in the nation for just the second time in their program’s history.

With the release of the new AP Poll this week, Auburn ascended to the No. 1 spot after another 2-0 week and a dominating loss for the previous No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers against the now No. 5 ranked Florida Gators.

For Auburn, it’s the first time they have climbed to the No. 1 spot since three years ago when one of Bruce Pearl’s best rosters ever, led by Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler, spent a number of weeks atop the poll.

The SEC continues to dominate the top-25 with still nine teams ranked overall including a new entry in the Georgia Bulldogs, who ironically the Tigers will have to play on the road this weekend.

Alabama comes in ranked No. 4 while Florida is No. 5, Tennessee drops from No. 1 to No. 6, Kentucky is at No. 8, Texas A&M is at No. 11, Mississippi State is at No. 15, Ole Miss is at No. 21, and Georgia is at No. 23.

Auburn will try to keep the domination alive this week with a great start in a home game victory against Mississippi State on Tuesday night before the road trip to Athens this weekend.

This season, every game within the conference is going to be difficult, and if Auburn wants to hold onto that No. 1 ranking then they had better be at the top of their game, even without the injured Johni Broome.

Tuesday night presented their first real test both as the No. 1 team in the nation and without Broome, a test which they responded with 20-point victory over a very good Bulldogs team.

Now set to hit the road this weekend for a test against a different Bulldogs in Athens, the Tigers must once again be on their game if they want to hold onto the No. 1 spot.
