Battle for Grant Nelson Down to Alabama and Arkansas

Nate Oats is swinging for the fences in the transfer portal after a tough offseason that saw the Crimson Tide lose some serious talent, especially in the front-court. Alabama’s latest target in the portal, former North Dakota State forward Grant Nelson, is fresh off a visit to Alabama that reportedly went very well and is now headed to Arkansas.

Nelson cancelled his visit to Baylor earlier this week, making the battle for the 6’11” forward a two man race between Nate Oats and Eric Musselman. Nelson averaged nearly 18 points per game with over 9 rebounds for the Bison last season.

He would provide an immediate boost to an Alabama front-court that desperately needs it after losing both Noah Clowney and Charles Bediako. While Clowney was expected to leave, Bediako’s departure caught the program by surprise and Nate Oats had to immediately pivot to recruit big men out of the portal.

After the visit to Alabama went well, Arkansas will now get their turn to convince Nelson to come to Fayetteville. The Hogs have already had a great offseason, bringing in players such as Tramon Mark from Houston and Keyon Menifield from Washington.

We should have an answer by the end of the weekend as to which SEC school Nelson will choose to play for.
