Alabama Adds 2024 WR After Perry Thompson Flip

Alabama’s 2024 class got some relief at the wide receiver position after last week’s news that Foley 5-star Perry Thompson was flipping his decision to Auburn. After Thompson was lost, Nick Saban narrowed his focus on Chattanooga area product Amari Jefferson. Jefferson, who was initially committed to Tennessee to play baseball, exploded onto the football recruiting scene after a breakout junior season for Baylor School.

He now commits to play for Alabama in both baseball and football over Tennessee and Georgia.

After Thompson’s flip, Jefferson is just the third wide receiver in Alabama’s 2024 class, joining Jameer Grimsley of Tampa, FL and Rico Scott and Harrisburg, PA, as well as top tight end prospect Caleb Odom out of Carrollton, GA.

Jefferson really felt like someone Alabama had to have in order to round out the class, and he is an absolutely massive land for Nick Saban and company. The Crimson Tide still rank just 9th in overall team rankings for the class, trailing Tennessee (8th) and Georgia (1st) with time in the cycle running out.

Alabama is ahead of the game at the wide receiver position in 2025, with of course Saraland superstar Ryan Williams as well as Jacksonville 5-star Jamie Ffrench. We’ll continue to monitor if Nick Saban can add to the 2024 class before the cycle ends.
