Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark, Lee and Michael will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.
In this week’s edition, the guys were joined by Baker Hornets head coach Eric Scott, who despite entering the year with a ton of hope had a tough week one defeat by a score of 33-0 against one of the best teams in the state in Williamson. Baker did not return a ton of its starters on offense, and a dominating Williamson which is littered with SEC and power four commits was able to take advantage.
Despite the defeat, Coach Scott is not panicking ahead of another huge game this week against Theodore, and instead is going to use this opportunity to make his young team better.
“We’ve gotta be better in every area. We’re learning from it and we’re gonna be better for it,” Scott said. “We played well at times and our inexperience showed up too. We have work to do and a very tough opponent on Friday night.”
The showdown against Theodore will be the first of four straight away games for baker as region play starts the following week against Davidson before trips across the bay to both Daphne and Foley and a bye week before returning home to host Mary G. Montgomery.
