It’s playoff time on the Gulf Coast, and the second round of the playoffs with the regular season now wrapped up brought some very exciting action to the area and around the state as teams got back on the field with everything on the line and now facing one-game seasons.
Every week during the season, Pigskin Pete and his crew on the Friday night Joe Bullard Chevrolet Scoreboard show select an athlete from one of the teams that we cover and name them the Bryant Bank Player of the Week for their outstanding performance and helping their team to get the victory.
This week, the honor went to Bayside Academy Admirals quarterback Davis Barnett for his huge showing in Bayside’s 47-7 victory over Randolph County. Barnett completed 18 of his 25 passing attempts for 253 yards and 4 touchdowns, helping the Admirals advance to the quarter finals where they face the huge challenge of Montgomery Academy.
Both teams will enter the showdown — which will be held down here — with records of 11-1, but Barnett is playing his best football of the season. Neither team lost to a squad this season in 3A, and they have a chance to keep that streak alive.
For Bayside, a trip to the semifinals for the first time in a decade (2015) is on the line when they advanced all the way to the Super 7 and were defeated by Piedmont.
Congratulations to Barnett and the entire Admirals team on the distinct honor and best of luck the rest of the way this postseason!
