High school football is in full swing on the Gulf Coast, with the regular season flying by every single week!
Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
This week on our ninth Friday night of the season, the honor went to the Williamson Lions after the #2 ranked team in 5A was able to defeat the #1 ranked Vigor Wolves in the showdown of the season to win the 5A Region 1 title for the first time in five years and just the second time in the last 18 years.
“This game was won over the summer with how hard these kids worked in the offseason,” head coach Antonio Coleman told the postgame show on WNSP Friday night.
Having already locked up the region, Williamson moves their focus to trying to finish off an undefeated regular season ahead of the pursuit of a state title once the playoffs come along. The Lions get set to take on LeFlore this week on the road before a bye in the final week, so they only have one to go in order to go into the playoffs without a blemish.
Williamson has now outscored their opponents 427-38 on the season.
Congratulations to the Williamson Lions and head coach Antonio Coleman on being named this week’s Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week and best of luck the rest of the way in their 2025 season!
