High school football season is officially BACK on the Gulf Coast with our next stop of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week taking us Daphne High School for their huge region game against Mary G. Montgomery!
The Trojans are off to a 2-0 start after a thrilling week one victory over the McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets as well as defeating Pine Forest (FL) 32-12 for a strong couple of weeks before the start of region play. It’s a new animal coming across the bay this week though in the Vikings, who are 2-0 themselves after close wins over Pace (FL) and Gulf Shores.
Mary G. Montgomery has ran the show in 7A Region 1 the last several years and has not dropped a region game since 2022. Daphne will look to change that with an electric offense led by Christian Segar which knows it will have to put up points if they are to keep up with the Vikings.
Quarterbacked by St. Luke’s transfer Jeremy Menhennett, MGM looks to have not missed a beat on offense, however it’s the defense which is leading the way right now and stuffing teams at the goal line to help the Vikings grab wins.
It’s too early to call this a region-deciding game, however with both Daphne and MGM looking as strong as ever, it could certainly be one that impacts things in 7A down the line.
It should be a phenomenal night of football on Friday at Daphne, and it’s only the early portion of what will be a huge schedule for our WNSP crew this season!
