Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week: Vigor

Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.

For our fourth Friday night of the season, the Vigor Wolves and head coach John McKenzie receive the honor! Thus far in the young season, the Wolves under McKenzie have been one of the best stories in the entire area, off to a 4-0 start including a huge 30-14 victory over UMS Wright this past Friday night.

McKenzie is on the first season of a second stint as Vigor’s head coach, having previously served two seasons with the program from 2020-2021, a stint that ended in a Class 4A state championship in 2021. Three years later, Vigor is playing in 5A once again and perhaps even more important than the 4-0 start is the 2-0 start in region play with a dominating win over LeFlore last week ahead of the massive tilt against UMS.

In the first two weeks of the season, the Wolves hammered both Blount and Tuscaloosa County before region play began. Coming up this week, it’s another region game for Vigor against Citronelle, who is off to a 3-1 start of their own and coming off a close overtime loss against Williamson.

Congratulations to the Vigor Wolves and head coach John McKenzie on being named this week’s Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week!
