High school football season is officially well underway on the Gulf Coast this week with our sixth stop of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week taking us out to Daphne High School for their huge 7A rivalry matchup against Baker.
Both teams are off to 3-1 starts on the season with Baker coming off a non-region loss last week to Jackson at home and Daphne defeating Foley last week for their first region win. With wins over Alma Bryant and Davidson, Baker is 2-0 in region play while Daphne is 1-1 after falling to Mary G. Montgomery 21-8 in week three.
The two schools have only played 12 times throughout their history, and historically, Daphne dominates the series with a record of 10-2 including victories in the first nine times they matched up. However, the Hornets have been victorious in two of the last three games against Daphne including last season’s 33-20 victory.
With all three of Baker, Mary G. Montgomery, and Fairhope sitting at 2-0 in region play, it’s a massive opportunity at home for Daphne to pull closer to the top of the standings in what looks to be a hotly contested Class 7A Region 1.
You’ll be able to hear Michael Brauner and Brian Genard Friday night on the call at 7:00 p.m. on 105.5 WNSP or on the Sound of Mobile app!
