Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
This week, the honor goes to the Spanish Fort Toros and head coach Chase Smith! The Toros earned a massive victory over St. Paul’s by a score of 27-13 to lock up the No. 2 seed in Class 6A Region 1 in what was the final game of the regular season and be able to secure a home playoff game in the first round.
It was a hotly contested battle for that ever important top-two seed all season between the Toros and St. Paul’s, but with the showdown against the two schools taking place in the last week of the year, it was always going to come down to this.
Spanish Fort now gets the chance to host Benjamin Russell in the first round of the playoffs this Friday after finishing the regular season 8-2 and have a great chance to make a deep run in the postseason if they can play against others the way they played this week against the Saints.
Congratulations to the Spanish Fort Toros and head coach Chase Smith on being named this week’s Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week and best of luck on their playoff journey!
