Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
This week, the big honor goes to the Saraland Spartans and head coach Jeff Kelly after a massive 45-19 victory over Spain Park to get back to the state semifinals for the fourth season in a row. Spain Park was seen as arguably the greatest threat to the Spartans’ hopes to return to the state title game, but a fast start propelled Saraland to the big victory.
For the second season in a row, the Spartans move to 12-0 on the season and this time around are after the goal of finishing the job and bringing their second Blue Map in three years back to the Gulf Coast.
They will have to hit the road next week to take on Pike Road, the team they defeated in last year’s semifinal matchup but this time the Patriots will get to take on the Spartans at home.
Congratulations to the Saraland Spartans and head coach Jeff Kelly on being named this week’s Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week and best of luck in their third round game!
