Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
For our tenth Friday night of the season and second to last of the regular season, our Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week is the McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets and second year head coach David Faulkner. The Jackets earned perhaps what was the biggest win of Faulkner’s tenure thus far on Friday night when they pulled a huge upset against Spanish Fort to put the team on the brink of locking up a playoff spot headed into the final week of the season.
The 20-14 victory over the Toros pulled McGill ahead of both Theodore and Gulf Shores, the two schools they are vying against for the fourth and final playoff spot in Class 6A Region 1, also known as the toughest region in the state of Alabama.
With a victory over Theodore and a loss to Gulf Shores, the potential tie breaker scenarios were about to get very murky, but now it’s quite simple for the Yellow Jackets. Defeat Baldwin County this week, and McGill will be in the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
Congratulations to the McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets and head coach David Faulkner on being named this week’s Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week!
