Week nine of the high school football season has come and gone, and the Pigskin Pete crew has named a new Bryant Bank Player of the Week.
This week, the honor goes to Saraland star quarterback KJ Lacey who led his Spartans to a 42-0 victory over rival Theodore on the road in what was the final regular season game of the year for the team and secured their second consecutive undefeated regular season and region title.
Lacey completed 21 of his 31 attempts for 254 yards and three touchdowns in what was yet another offensive clinic for the Texas commit that we have seen so many times over the last three years. Lacey rebounded from an injury earlier in the season over the last couple of weeks, and his head coach Jeff Kelly described his performance on Friday night as being as sharp as he’s ever been.
“That’s what we expect each and every Friday night,” Kelly said, adding that he was not surprised with how well Lacey played. “No matter who we play, as long he’s back there we have a chance to win.”
The Spartans will host Chelsea in the first round of the playoffs in Saraland two weeks from now as they begin the chase for another state title.
