Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
For our ninth Friday night of the season, our our Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week is Mary G. Montgomery and third-year head coach Zach Golson! With a massive overtime thrilling win over Baker on Friday night, Golson has led the Vikings to their second consecutive 7A Region 1 title. MGM is 8-1 and has not lost since week one, undefeated in the region after a perfect regular season last year.
Golson is doing it all with a new quarterback this season from last year’s historic offense in Shondell Harris after Jared Hollins graduated and moved on from last year. With the region locked up once again, the Vikings have one more game in the regular season against Davidson before a bye week ahead of another playoff appearance.
Last year, the Vikings made a deep run in 7A all the way to the state semifinals where they fell to eventual champion Central Phenix City, and this year Golson will try to do the same and get even further.
