Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
This week, the honor goes to the Baker Hornets and head coach Juan Johnson! Johnson led the Hornets to a massive first round victory in 7A over his former school, Hewitt-Trussville, is a 17-14 double overtime thriller. It was just the second ever playoff win in school history and Baker’s first since 1984.
The Hornets now get the chance to hit the road and advance to the third round for what would be the first time in school history with a massive showdown against Enterprise, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs two years ago in the first round as well as in 2016.
Baker remains the only team in our area to still be alive in 7A after first round losses for all three of Daphne, Mary G. Montgomery, and Fairhope.
Congratulations to the Baker Hornets and head coach Juan Johnson on being named this week’s Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week and best of luck in their second round game!
