Gulf Coast Challenge Press Conference Held

The 2023 annual Gulf Coast Challenge, which will feature a rematch from last year’s game between the Jackson State Tigers and Alabama A&M Bulldogs, was officially announced at a press conference this morning at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Officials from both schools as well as both head coaches were present to talk about what the game means to each school as well as HBCUs as a whole.

Jackson State head coach T.C. Taylor, an alum of the university, is entering his first year as head coach and will try to replicate the success that Deion Sanders brought to the school. Connell Maynor, the head coach at Alabama A&M, has been at the school since 2018 and won a SWAC championship in 2020.

“All four years we have been here the fans have been amazing, it’s an HBCU atmosphere, great football game, great product we put on the field,” Maynor stated on the Bulldogs return to Mobile this season.

“Playing a great football game for the city of Mobile, these fans want to see a great product, so we’re really excited to come back this season. The fans were great last year for both sides,” said coach Taylor.

In last year’s game, Jackson State was victorious by a score of 27-13. This year’s game will take place on October 7th, and tickets are on sale now.
