The Alabama Crimson Tide have had their worst day yet since Nick Saban’s retirement.
Both of its standout freshman, All-American safety Caleb Downs and standout left tackle Kadyn Proctor have entered the transfer portal.
Downs led the Crimson Tide with 107 tackles this season, the first freshman in the history of the program to do so. He is already one of the best safeties in the entire nation and will likely be a first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Proctor, who took a bit more time to get going, shined down the stretch before an ankle injury that he played through may have limited him in the Rose Bowl.
As for expected transfer destinations, Downs is expected heavily to head to either Georgia or Ohio State, with Georgia the leader as of Wednesday afternoon. Defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson to Athens cast doubt on Downs’ future at Alabama.
For Proctor, Iowa is seen as a high potential landing spot. Proctor, an Iowa native, was initially committed to the Hawkeyes before Nick Saban was able to flip him.
Things may continue to get worse for Alabama in the transfer portal as we are less than a week into the 30-day window granted by the NCAA due to the departure of its head coach.
