Bryant Bank Player of the Week: Quintarias Shields, Robertsdale

Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Bryant Bank Player of the Week, a distinction given to a player who shined brightest that week in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast. Michael Holland of Bryant Bank will be stopping by the school for which the player represents to recognize the athlete and provide a check to the school.

For our first Friday night of the year, an athlete from Robertsdale is taking home the honors in running back Quintarias Shields. Shields had a massive game on Friday night for the Bears, rushing for 191 yards on 24 carries as well as finding the end zone twice.

Even bigger than Shields’ individual performance was the fact that it helped Robertsdale end a huge losing streak of 24 games. The Bears’ 31-0 victory over Chickasaw was the school’s first victory on the football field since 2021.

Head coach Chris Bell joined the Opening Kickoff on Monday morning to talk about his star, saying that the junior has been playing since his freshman season, making this the first win he has been a part of.

“We need to give him the ball a lot this year if he’s gonna carry it like that,” Bell said. “He’s been one of those guys that just from the beginning you knew he wants to flip the script here. He definitely has a determination that’s contagious…he’s certainly the bell cow of our offense and our entire football team. He’s bought into everything we’ve preached and deserves all the accolades that have come his way since Friday,”

Congratulations to Quintarias on being named our first Bryant Bank Player of the Week in 2024!
