Week six of the high school football season has come and gone, and the Pigskin Pete crew has named a new Bryant Bank Player of the Week.
This week, the honor goes to Citronelle senior defensive back James Reid. Reid helped the Wildcats earn an absolutely massive 14-7 victory over UMS Wright. It’s the first victory for the Wildcats over UMS in 25 years since 1999 and gets the team to 5-2 in 5A Region 1. Reid had a huge game to help secure the win with a scoop and score touchdown on a blocked punt as well as a key interception with the Bulldogs inside the 10.
On top of that, Reid recovered ANOTHER fumble late in the game with UMS inside Wildcats territory again to help to preserve the victory. Head coach Jason Rowell described Reid as ‘the heart’ of his team’s defense during the Friday night scoreboard show after the win because of his excellent leadership.
“He had a great night,” Rowell said, describing Reid as an iron man who does it all. “He’s a great kid and a leader for our football team, so you get excited for those kids when they’re doing the right things…He played receiver for us, holder on PATs, plays on special teams, plays defensive back…it was a big night for him and a big win for our team and I’m just proud of our guys and proud for our community.”
Citronelle faces off against BC Rain next week in another huge region game as they look to take another step towards locking up a playoff spot.
