Bryant Bank Player of the Week: Bishop Burkhalter, Spanish Fort

Week five of the high school football season has come and gone, and the Pigskin Pete crew has named a new Bryant Bank Player of the Week.

This week, our big honor goes to Spanish Fort Toros linebacker Bishop Burkhalter for his huge performance in their win against Murphy. The Toros handled the Panthers with relative ease, claiming a 44-6 victory in which Burkhalter found the end zone twice in unconventional ways.

With a fumble return touchdown along with a punt return touchdown on a wacky play that saw the punt travel just one yard, Burkhalter was all over the place. As if 14 points scored wasn’t enough for a defensive player, he also had a tackle which resulted in a safety for Spanish Fort.

Even if you took away the two touchdowns and safety, Burkhalter had a tremendous game in the more conventional stat lines as well. With 11 tackles and 3 for loss as well as two sacks, it was a completely dominant performance from the senior.

“We are really proud of his performance not just in this game but in every game this season. He’s doing a great job in the clasroom and on the football field,” Spanish Fort head coach Chase Smith said on The Opening Kickoff.

The Toros, now 4-1, will host the Daphne Trojans next week in an Eastern Shore rivalry.
