Auburn Loses 5-Star WR to Texas A&M

Cameron Coleman, who is rated as the 11th overall player in the class of 2024, #3 wide receiver, and #1 player in the state of Alabama (rankings via 247Sports), has committed to Texas A&M over Auburn, LSU, and others. The Central-Phenix City product was seen as an Auburn near-lock as recently as a week ago, but Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies were able to convince him to come to College Station.

The commitment was seen as a big surprise to those who cover Auburn recruiting, with Coleman himself saying it was “very close” between Auburn and the Aggies. While Auburn surely will continue to recruit Coleman up until signing day, losing a 5-star receiver that felt like close to a lock has to sting for Hugh Freeze and the Tigers.

Coleman stands at 6’3″ and weighs 180 pounds and had over 500 receiving yards in a Central-Phenix offense that is absolutely loaded at the receiver position. According to AL.com, four receiver caught at least 25 passes for the Red Devils and Michigan commit Karmello English had 70.

On3 has had Coleman crystal-balled to Auburn since June 27th, and the reaction to the commitment across all platforms has been one of shock. While Hugh Freeze will continue to recruit Coleman, he now must pivot and try to add other pieces to the 2024 class.
