Auburn Had a Big Weekend in the Transfer Portal

Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers continue to make waves in the transfer portal, bringing in three new players over the weekend to The Plains. This brings the total number of transfer since Freeze’s arrival to 21. We knew Freeze was going to have to bring in a lot to overhaul a roster that was not good enough to compete in the SEC even if the coaching was good, and he has done exactly that.

The three newest additions are former Ohio and Jackson State wide receiver Shane Hooks, former New Mexico State corner Syrus Dumas, and a player Freeze is very familiar with in former Liberty pass rusher Stephen Sings.

Hooks is a big bodied receiver (6’4″, 205 lbs) who caught 64 passes for 748 yards and 10 touchdowns for Deion Sanders at Jackson State last season. For an Auburn receiver room that is desperate for help, Hooks could certainly end up being a big piece. Dumas set a career high in tackles in 2022 with 47 and Sings set a career high in sacks with 3.5.

For Dumas and Sings, they come into positions where Auburn has more depth than they do in the receiver room, but either could prove to be an important piece in the case of injury or guys not performing up to how they are expected to.

Momentum continues to roll for Hugh Freeze in the transfer portal, and you have to figure he isn’t done yet.
