The Orange Beach Makos, who have only had a softball program for three years, have just won their third straight state title in 4A by defeating Houston Academy over the weekend. Let me repeat that statement. The school has only competed in softball for three seasons, and they have ended all three seasons the exact same way and become state champions.
Head coach Shane Alexander hopped on The Opening Kickoff with Mark and Lee this morning to discuss the achievement and some of his players. “We’ve got phenomenal players, these girls work tremendously hard, long long hours and they do it year round. I’ve also got phenomenal assistant coaches, they’re the rockstars. Great coaches, great community support, it’s perfect down here,” Alexander said.
Makos sophomore star pitcher K.J. Favors, who was named MVP of Class 4A after moving up from 2A this season, (where she was named MVP last year) allowed a hit on the first batter of the game but then did not allow another hit the rest of the game in Orange Beach’s 5-0 shutout victory.
The Makos will go for four straight state titles next season and bring back much of their team as they try to accomplish this feat. You can check out the entire interview with Coach Alexander on WNSP NOW.
