Alabama fans got a dose of exciting news on Thursday when it was revealed that a highly anticipated showdown series between the Crimson Tide and Ohio State Buckeyes which was expected to be cancelled instead was confirmed.

In an era of college football where marquee non-conference matchups are starting to go by the wayside, On3 is reporting that Alabama and Ohio State plan to keep their home and home series which begins in 2027.

This announcement comes with the news that the series for the Tide against Oklahoma State has indeed been cancelled, but it’s safe to say most fans would happily take the trade off that comes with the chance to see arguably the two biggest brands in the sport face off.

The series will begin in Columbus in the 2027 season before returning to Tuscaloosa in 2028, and as of now Alabama still has a series scheduled with Notre Dame to begin in South Bend in 2029 and then Tuscaloosa the following season in 2030.

With the SEC adding a ninth conference game, the incentive to play premiere non-conference matchups has gone down, but as the College Football Playoff gets set to expand even further, perhaps teams see less risk now in playing them.
