The leading rusher, passer and receiver in Alabama’s A-Day game Saturday were all true freshmen who should still be in high school.
But Najee Harris, Tua Tagovailoa and Jerry Jeudy are not in high school because they were among the top recruits in the class of 2017. So, along with 13 others in their class, they arrived early in Tuscaloosa ready to compete.
The newcomers performing so well so early is further proof that what Alabama consistently does better than anyone else is evaluate talent and get that talent on campus.
Sure, there is some good coaching and development that takes place, but that doesn’t explain how players such as Harris, Tagovailoa and Jeudy are so good so soon after arriving on campus.
The name of the game in college football is still recruiting, and Saturday’s A-Day game proved once again that Alabama is still ahead of the pack in that category.
