Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark, Lee and Michael will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.
In this week’s edition, we caught up with Davidson Warriors head coach John Lambert as his team gets set to face the Daphne Trojans on the road this week. Davidson is going through some difficult times at the moment, losing not only their starting quarterback but also the backup to injury during this past Friday’s defeat against Robertsdale.
Lambert kept things real and said his team has had to change a whole lot of things up while game planning for the Trojans, but that he is proud of what the entire program is doing to adapt.
“We have tried to simplify things and make things a whole lot easier, doing a sort of quarterback by committee to try to give ourselves the best chance to win,” Lambert said. “I’m super proud of our staff and our young men that are part of the program. Adversity can take you one of two ways.”
Lambert revealed his players have been stepping up trying to figure out what more they can do to help the team win, as well as the staff working tirelessly to find some sort of edge in a game where they likely are bound to have a very one dimensional offense and be limited in the passing game.
“Our young men are still playing hard and still playing physical, they are just wonderful kids,” he said.
