Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark and Lee will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.
You can catch all of it right here on WNSP.com or live during The Opening Kickoff.
In this week’s edition, we caught up with Davidson Warriors soccer coach Kevin DeLange who is coming off his team claiming their area title yet again, their tenth consecutive not counting the COVID year. With a recent 4-2 win over McGill-Toolen to lock up the area, the Warriors are turning the page to the next goal.
With another regular season game against Daphne on Monday night and a record of just 11-10-2 on the year, Davidson has put itself in a spot where they have played some of the best teams in the state and the country outside of the area to get themselves ready to win the area once again.
“We were a very young team this year and we have always pushed playing in the toughest tournaments,” DeLange said. “It was a growing year for us. In the games that matter, it seems like we are kind of that cup team this year.”
The goal for the Warriors is clear, and while DeLange does have a young team, they are looking to finish the season the right way and head into the playoffs some serious momentum.
