Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner: Fairhope Baseball’s Kyle Hunter

Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark and Lee will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.

You can catch all of it right here on WNSP.com or live during The Opening Kickoff.

In this week’s edition, we caught up with Fairhope baseball coach Kyle Hunter amid what has been a 22-8 start to the season for what is a young Pirates team. With a game against Spanish Fort coming up this week before two huge area games against Daphne, the regular season is coming to a close.

“This team this year, we had to find a lot of answers, graduated some really good players last year. We returned just 14 innings on the mound,” Hunter said. “It’s been a year of opportunity for our guys, we have taken the wrapper off some young guys early and they are gonna benefit from that…they are just gritty. We fight, we don’t get down or frustrated or give in, I’ve been proud of how consistent this group has been.”

The series against Daphne will likely decide the region ahead of a huge postseason for Fairhope where they will try to take a young team all the way, and Hunter has his squad ready for the challenge. If the way the season has gone is any indication though, Hunter is going to have his team hungry and ready to go this week.

They will face the Toros on Monday night before taking on Daphne on Wednesday and Thursday.
