The South Alabama Jaguars take on the Marshall Thundering Herd in their first series at Stanky Field in three weeks.
The Jags are riding a three-game winning streak and are coming off a Sun Belt series win against the Georgia Southern Eagles. They are 22-15 on the season overall and 8-7 in the Sun Belt.
South Alabama picked up the win Tuesday at home against Nicholls State 4-3, where freshman Nick Richardson had the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning.
Rett Johnson is scorching hot right now as he is batting 8-for-13 over the last four games including three home runs. Before this recent four-game stretch, Johnson was hitting .250, but he is now hitting .291.
In the series at Georgia Southern, South Alabama got the job done by way of the long ball as they had eight home runs on the weekend.
The Thundering Herd are also 8-7 in the Sun Belt, but they are 16-18 overall. They are led by center fielder Evan Bottone who is hitting .381 with 51 hits and six home runs. Not too far behind him are his teammates, Tyler Kamerer and Cooper Hinson, who are both hitting .350 with a combined 91 hits.
Both teams are in a five-way tie for third place in the conference, so this series will be pivotal in the Sun Belt Conference standings.
