Former Auburn Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn has decided on his next step in retirement.

According to an announcement from the College Football Playoff, Malzahn is going to be joining the CFP selection committee this spring along with other new additions Dr. Bryan Maggard, athletics director at Louisiana as well as Jeff Tedford, former head coach at Cal and Fresno State.

“The additions of Bryan Maggard, Gus Malzahn and Jeff Tedford will introduce strong, fresh perspectives to the selection committee as we enter our 13th season,” CFP Executive Director Rich Clark said in the statement. “Each brings a deep understanding of the game, a genuine passion for college football and a commitment to integrity and excellence. Their diverse backgrounds as university leaders, recent coaches and former student-athletes will complement our returning members and allow for a seamless transition.”

Malzahn’s inclusion makes him the most high profile member of the committee and will allow him to have a direct say in which teams do and do not make the College Football Playoff.

The committee is composed of individuals who are “intended to balance technical football expertise, industry knowledge and independent judgement” with a mix of ADs, journalists, coaches and others.

Now, Malzahn gets to add his name to the list and have his voice heard in the most important decision making room in the sport.
