The Jaguars were up at halftime 43-40, and were up by as many as 10 with eight and a half minutes to go. But Georgia Southern ended the game on a 38-19 run to seal the victory for the Eagles, and punch their ticket to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
Applewhite for Georgia Southern could not be stopped as he finished with 34 points and an incredible field goal percentage of 92%. Applewhite also made eight out of his nine 3-point attempts.
Chaze Harris ended his Sun Belt Player of the Year campaign with a double-double as he had 17 points and 10 assists.
The Jags won the battle down low with 36 points in the paint compared to Georgia Southern’s 12, along with 16 offensive rebounds for South Alabama compared to just 6 for Georgia Southern. The Eagles got it done by way of the 3-pointer as they made 23 on the day.
