South Alabama won again in Hammond, Louisiana on Tuesday night 9-7 over Southeastern Louisiana to improve to 6-2 on the season. The bats got hot early in the midweek matchup with the Lions as both teams put multiple runs across the plate in the second inning. With the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana leading 4-3 early, the Jags turned it around in the top of the 4th with a 4 run flurry. The Jags gave up two in the bottom of the 4th and another run in the 6th to even the score of the game at 7-7. South Alabama answered with 2 runs in the top of the 7th, the final runs of the game.
It was a great night for the Jags by all means. Veterans and young players alike contributed to the midweek win on the road. Junior Duncan Matthews had a 3 RBI double in the 4 run 4th and Freshman Bray Goode entered in the 6th and gave the Jags 2 and two thirds of solid work to record his first career win for South Alabama. Head Coach Mark Calvi was very complimentary of both Goode and Closer Brian Garmon who earned his first save of the year: “Bray was outstanding. He has guts, unfazed, since day one he’s been really good. And Garmon ran towards it. Went an inning and a third against the teeth of their lineup and was outstanding, getting knocked down last week and getting back up and being the guy tonight.”
The Jags play a second midweek matchup this week, playing host to Tulane tonight at Stanky Field. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and first-pitch is set for just after 6:30 pm.
