The South Alabama Jaguars finished strong Saturday against their archrival Troy, taking the win 65-54 in front of an ecstatic home crowd at the Mitchell Center.
The Jags finished the last 6:34 on a 16-3 run that propelled them to the victory. Jayden Cooper and Chaze Harris led the way for the Jags with 17 points apiece, and Adam Olsen tacked on 16 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
Hantz Louis-Jeune had a great game after recent struggles as he put up 11 points with three 3-pointers and 3 rebounds.
The Jaguars played phenomenal defense on Saturday as they allowed Troy to only shoot 25% from the field while only giving up 13 made shots. The Jags also dominated in the paint as they outscored Troy 30-6 down low
The Jags were able to hold Victor Valdes and Thomas Dowd, the Trojans’ two leading scorers, in check as they combined for just 17 points, and combined to shoot 3-of-16 from the field.
Cooper Campbell led the way for the Troy Trojans with 26 points and seven 3-pointers.
With the win, South Alabama tallied 20 wins on the season for the second year in a row. The last time the Jaguars achieved this feat was in 2009.
The Jags are now second in the Sun Belt Conference standings sitting only behind Appalachian State. South Alabama finishes the regular season with two home games against ULM and Southern Miss.
