South Alabama earned the nickname of the Cardiac Jags as it battled back on the road in Jonesboro to win 92-88 in overtime.
The Jags were down by 18 with a little more than 7 minutes left in the game, and it seemed like all hope was lost. However, the Jags did not back down as they ended the second half on a 31-13 run that sent the game into overtime.
Arkansas State was at the foul line with six seconds left up 83-79, and it missed the second of two free throws. Chaze Harris grabbed the rebound, and took it down the court to make an incredible, off-balance 3-pointer where he also got fouled.
This was Harris’ second made three of the day, and more shocking, only his third made three of the year. Harris would go on to sink the free throw, and give the audience free basketball.
Harris would play a huge part in overtime as well as he made four free throws in the last two minutes to help put away the game. Harris finished with 30 points, including going 12 for 14 from the free-throw line where he has struggled.
Adam Olsen added 27 points with seven 3-pointers in his astounding 44 minutes on the court. Randy Brady was also incredibly efficient with 12 points on only four shots with nine rebounds.
South Alabama is now in first place in the Sun Belt Conference standings alongside Appalachian State. The Jags will have a quick turnaround as they will play at Marshall Monday night in their last road game of the season.
