The Auburn Tigers dropped yet another game on Saturday night while faced with their best chance to beat Georgia since they last did it in 2017. Coming out with their hair on fire, Auburn absolutely dominated the first half and looked like they were going to grab their first signature victory of the Hugh Freeze era.
While some questionable calls contributed to their downfall, the Tigers under Freeze once again showed no ability to handle adversity of any kind, and it showed in the second half as the Bulldogs dominated the Auburn offense en route to their eighth straight win in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.
For Freeze, it’s now an 0-3 start in SEC play and his seat has never been hotter. Saturday night in Jordan-Hare felt different though, and for the first time of his tenure, it feels like the majority of the fanbase has lost faith that he will be the one to bring the program back to prominence.
With the Missouri Tigers coming to town this weekend, if Freeze’s seat wasn’t already hot, it’s now absolutely scorching following another close defeat. This coaching staff has simply not shown an ability to grab wins in games that are close, and patience with the fanbase is very close to running out if it hasn’t already.
The point spread is right around even going into yet another home game against a flawed Missouri team, but this week feels a little bit different for Freeze in a chance to take on a team that on paper, they might just be more talented than. At home and under the lights again, there is really no excuse this week.
If Freeze’s team can’t find a way to get it going this week, there’s a real argument to be made that they never will, and if administration feels the same way, it would not be a surprise to see them make a move on him this week.
All hope is not yet lost for Freeze and perhaps his fate is not completely sealed, but things are trending in that direction. Another loss on Saturday night might just accelerate that decision and leave Auburn looking for a new coach yet again this offseason.
